- Safety & Legal Compliance
- Highway Code: Riders must strictly obey all traffic laws, including stopping at red lights and following road signs.
- Mechanical Fitness: Your bike must be in good mechanical condition. You are expected to carry essential tools, such as a pump, spare tubes, and a multi-tool.
- Lights: Working front (white) and rear (red) lights are required for evening rides or when visibility is low.
- Group Riding Etiquette
- Formation: Riders typically ride two abreast in compact, parallel lines but switch to single file when instructed by the ride leader or when on busy or narrow roads.
- Communication: Riders must relay verbal warnings and hand signals up and down the line for hazards such as potholes, parked cars, horses, pedestrians, pop-up traffic lights, or approaching vehicles. Use clear calls like “car up,” “car down,” or “slowing down.”
- Smooth Riding: To prevent crashes, avoid sudden braking, swerving, or “half-wheeling” (overlapping your wheel with the rider in front of you).
- No Rider Left Behind: Most clubs follow a ‘no drop’ policy, regrouping at the top of hills or junctions to ensure the entire group stays together.
- Spitting: If you need to spit or clear your nose, please move to the back of the group to ensure no one is behind you. Never spit or blow a ‘snot rocket’ while in the middle of the group. Inconsiderate or unhygienic behaviour may be deemed a violation of the club’s code of conduct.
- Self-Sufficiency: Riders are responsible for carrying their own food, water, and emergency contact information. Please do not litter; take all your rubbish with you.
- Notification: If you plan to leave the group early, you must inform the ride leader so that you are not mistakenly treated as a missing person.
- Conduct & Respect
- Personal Conduct: Respect the rights, dignity and worth of every person, be they adult or child, treating everyone equally within the context of the sport, regardless of ability, gender, religion, age or sexual orientation.
- Representation: By being a club member, you represent the club. Promote the positive aspects of the sport and never display or condone the use of inappropriate or abusive language, inappropriate relationships, bullying, harassment, discrimination, physical violence, or conduct that may be construed as unethical.
- Inclusivity: Members are expected to support new or struggling riders by offering assistance with mechanical issues or adjusting the pace when necessary.
- Administrative & Insurance
- The Club’s membership year shall run from 1st January to 31st December. New members elected after 30th September shall be entitled to all the privileges of membership up to 31st December the following year.
- Racing
- Highway Code: All riders are expected to obey the rules of the highway and stay on the left-hand side of the road at all times. Any rider crossing broken white lines, solid white lines, or hatched areas will risk disqualification, unless on closed roads. On open roads, a marshal will be present to provide warnings at intersections; however, it is the individual’s responsibility to halt as necessary.
- Rules & Regulations: Members competing in or organising events under the rules of affiliated and non-affiliated organisations must be familiar with the rules covering the events, and must act in compliance with the rules at all times.
- Volunteers & Officials: Please be mindful of your behaviour and language throughout the race. Without volunteers and officials, races could not take place.
- Littering: Riders must return gels to their pockets and not litter the course. Bottles should only be discarded in designated feed zones.
